Well can you believe it a carrot, grown in my garden unbeknown to me untill I pulled it out last night thinking it was a wilted something or other which shouldn't have been in the pot with the Salvia .

What with this and the two apples on the tree in another pot it looks as if family goosey will eat well this year are on the verge of going self sufficient .

Talking about carrots, in the days when I used to grow them, they caused lots of asmudrmrnt by growing into all sorts of contorted shapes. This was the best though - it discivered and grew through a Vuctorian/Edwardian fob-watch chain!

Well you two are just showing off now!
I can't compete with your obvious flair for growing 'carrots in strange places', with or without bling, although it is quite amazing really.
Btw Paul what does ' asmudrmrnt' mean? is it a good old Victorian word? ( or should I say Vuctorian )

Looks like we might get some food out of the garden in the next week or two! If they don't get washed away ....
Broad beans at last coming into flower and various foliage plants pickable.
However, the kohl rabi seedling largely eaten by something; I tend to automatically blame slugs or maybe flea beetles but .... notice that the plantlets that were under wire protection (on the right of the picture) are unaffected but those open have been shredded. Pigeons, I suppose .... but why have they taken a liking to kohl and left radishes, rocket &c untouched?

How did you get on with your harvesting? I hope the rain eased and you managed to get something.

The sun finally decided to show itself up here, so we grabbed the chance to pick a few things before they over ripened.
How painful can picking gooseberries be? All I could hear was me and my son shouting involuntary ouches. The thorns on them are horrendous, whatever possessed me to have three of the blooming things I'll never know! and why didn't I choose the thornless variety?
They look so innocent now don't they

Next were the blackcurrants, so much simpler, a quick snip and they are done!

And the raspberries were even easier......once I found them.....picked and eaten in a trice.

But our biggest success story so far has to be the shallots! And here they are picked and drying out......now to work out what to do with them all!

That's not a serious question, is it?

Here's an interesting book to buy an allotmenteer!
Shire Publications - Allotments

Shire Books are good at a variety of things - and helping to keep our money away from the grasping tentacles of Amazon.
