Thanks Goosey, how funny was that . Loved the seal near the end.
It's definately worth finding your earphones for Paul.
My favourite tune too.

One of the tasks that I'm given at this time of year is the hanging of the cards [Do people in other countries have Christmas cards as in the UK? Apparently they were invented by a lazy Lord in Victorian times - he couldn't be bothered to write letters to people ....].
To make the job more interesting I have sometimes counted the animals on the cards to see what were the most fashionable and whether fashions changed from year to year ..... I heven't counted this year but would estimate that the good old robin Erithacus rubecula is most abundant ....

A few hours to spend while I copy my hard disc to an external drive .... a double back-up!
One of the time-wasting things is to count the card animals and yes the robin wins (7 cards) followed by camels, dogs (dogs!?) and doves on 3 each. Unless you count the number of individuals: although only 2 cards showed sheep, there were 17 of them; and camels would share second place with 7!
Other things were donkeys, cats, reindeer and polar bears. Unusually for me, not one insect ....

Robins were the main design on our cards too this year, with a few rather sweet penguins, polar bears and a gorgeous seal. There were camels in a nativity scene card though.
I have noticed over years there seems to be more of a colour theme more than anything else - this year probably more than 90% were red.

Ok, here we go (no camels or doves here, being non Christian )
Wild Boar
Polar Bear
Goose
Cat
Dog
Rabbit x 2
Reindeer x 2
Robin x 3
But the ubiquitous Robin still wins!

Not a very good haul this year:
4 robins - no other birds! The only other wildlife (I don't count reindeers) was a rather cold-looking rabbit.
Amongst the plants, snowdrops ( Galanthus) the easy winner (3!).
Robin not the most popular bird from sales of RSPB cards but then, they do offer many alternatives to what is on sale in the shops!

It gets worse: this year the robin wins as usual (3 cards but actually 15 robins: I counted) with hare (1) and a cluster of geese and other waterfowl (very nice but I'm not going to count them ) [2 dogs and 1 cow omitted as not wildlife). I don't know why I didn't count reindeer - but none appeared this!
Only 2 snowdrops this year, easily outdone by at least 7 sprigs of holly berries!

I am not sure if I dare to report here! The only photo of an animal I got was a donkey in a stall with a knitted (Xmas pudding pattern) wooly hat. It wasn't free-range, but was probably wild because of being made to wear the hat Cartoons/drawings - a reindeer with a robin on its head, 6 geese (2 a'laying), 3 wise men .......
Sorry!

This years's count so far (not all results are in) is going overwhelmingly to the robins - otherwise I've only noticed one group of camels and a cat ( looking wistfully at the robins?).

A poodle? Probably an artist not very good at lambs? I suspect that's why we get so many camels on manger scenes - they're easier than sheep. Having said that, I've just received a card from a friend with some very realistic, Essex sheep.
PS: I didn't take in the kittens ..... good grief.
