Egg for ID
This was a large egg, I put the two large bits together and could measure the lenth, 7.2cm.
The shell looked quite marbled, almost veiny.
I found it in a pine area, but I know that some birds discard egg shell away from the nest so not to alert predators to the presence of young.
Is ther any chance of an ID here?
Thanks

Goose, Goosey ?
Not for me to say - especially given your name - but I was just curious and had an online search. It wouldn't be a goose egg, would it ? Would a goose be wandering around a pine forest (if a forest is where your pine area was)?

I hadn't thought about geese eggs at all to be honest, but I could imagine the size being right, not that I really know.
There are geese in the NP, but not near this pine area. Of course, a predator like a fox could have taken it, but I would have thought it would have either taken it to its earth for its cubs or would have eaten it where it found it.
Umm..... more to think about
Thanks lemars

The size would put it more in the range of a duck egg, such as that of a Mallard. They sometimes nest in seemingly unlikely places, sometimes quite far from water, so unless it was in dense woodland it might be a possibility.
