In Search For Waders in Southern Selangor 14/2/2007
This morning at 7.30am, I started scouting for waders in Pantai Kelanang, Selangor. With the exposed muddy ground along the beach, I was cover a larger area. No waders were sighted but found a few local folks catching fish. So, I stayed and watch while they examine their catch. They caught quite a lot of small stingrays, a horseshoe crab and a puffer fish. Some of the fishes that they caught were left on the mud. A few seconds later, little herons came to the spot to feed on the fishes. I was just a few feet away from the herons. Then I decided, to drive along a coastal road from Pantai Kelanang towards Jugra.
I stopped by at Banting to have a late breakfast before continuing my search in Morib beach. Before the beach, I went to check on a pond famous for ducks and grebes. Yes!!! I’ve got another species for my 2007 birdlist. Quite lucky this time around at 11pm. Initially only 1 wader, then I shifted my attention to another side of the beach and found a small group of waders with down curved bill - whimbrels and curlews!!!
