Garden Birds
I would be interested to know what the common garden birds are in other parts of the world.
In Britain its mainly: blue, great and coal tit, goldfinch, greenfinch, chaffinch, blackbird, robin, dunnock, house sparrow, collared dove and woodpigeon. Also quite afew people get: great spotted woodpeckers, song thrush, nuthatch and siskin.
What do you get in your garden?

Guy,
I worked in putrajaya wetland which also consist of a garden planted with ornamental plants - some have fruits while some flowering shrubs. The common birds that usually can be found in the park includes olive-backed sunbird, rock pigeon, black-naped oriole, common iora, golden-bellied gerygone, eurasian tree sparrow, house crow and common tailorbird. Of course there are more, but i thought this would be sufficient for the time being.

Wow, those sound a bit more exciting than the normal British garden birds. It's interesting to see how different the birds are in different countries.

Rhodope Mountain Garden List (Bulgaria)
Hi Guy!
I own a house in a tiny hamlet high up in a remote part of Bulgaria's Rhodope Mountains. It is situated at the edge of the "Trigrad-Mursalitsa" Important Bird Area about which I will post more on the forum in future threads.
A few days ago I had a look through the list of birds I saw last year either in my garden or from my garden (birds flying over the house or perched on trees just outside its boundaries). Its not a large list, just 39 species, but not too bad for a garden perched in the mountains at an altitude of about 1200 metres. It is interesting to read about the typical "garden birds" of other forum members dotted around the globe, so I hope that some of you may be interested to see the species that I typically see around me:
Black Redstart
Common Redstart (including ssp. samamisicus)
Robin
Nightingale
Blackbird
Black Woodpecker
Great Spotted Woodpecker
Blackcap
Chiffchaff
Spotted Flycatcher
Blue Tit
Great Tit
Willow Tit
Bullfinch
Chaffinch
Goldfinch
Linnet
Serin
Common Buzzard
Honey Buzzard
Sparrowhawk
Kestrel
Scops Owl
Tawny Owl
Cuckoo
Grey Wagtail
Pallid Swift
House Martin
Barn Swallow
Red-rumped Swallow
Jay
Magpie
Nutcracker
Raven
European Nightjar
Red-backed Shrike
Tree Sparrow
Wren
Yellow Bunting
And my hopes for 2007: Short-toed Eagle, White-backed Woodpecker, Cirl Bunting, Rock Bunting and Sombre Tit...all of which I have seen elsewhere in the village a short distance from my home.

Some more great birds there, that make some of our British garden birds seem a little less exciting, but it's still always nice to see them. It's strange to think that some birds, like Serin and Black-Redstart, which are so rare in Britain, can be regular garden birds elsewhere.

Hi Guy, I can tick all the birds off your list as having visited my garden in Holland at one time or another except for the nuthatch and coal tit. My greatest surprise and best, was a visiting great spotted woodpecker which came daily to feed on the seeds straight from the sun flowers. Once they were gone so was he, although we had sunflower seeds in feeders.
