Is there a list of garden birds in France?

I'm new to this forum so first I'd like to say hello to everyone .

I'm hoping that someone here will be able to help me. I'm trying to compile a list of common garden birds in France, in order of how common they are. I've compiled a similar list for the UK using data from the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch, and I can also find data for Holland and Germany from similar events. But I can't find any information about common garden birds in France - nothing! I can find a list of all French birds but I really just want to know what species are commonly seen in the garden. I'd be really grateful for any help!

Hi spiny and welcome .

ericrovve may be the one to help you with your question!

Here in Holland, we do a garden bird watch every year ran by the Vogelbescherming Nederland, I have taken part for the last few years. Here is a thread from this years garden bird counts, 2008 Holland's and Britain's took place on the same weekend , which was unusual.

Welcome - would be interesting to hear of any differences you find between countries. I haven't been able to find any sorts of lists for France but suspect that you would find very different lists betwen N, S, E & W of France (not to mention 'central'!).
I'm sure you should be able to find similar information for Belgium. Perhaps if you asked RSPB or BTO they could point you in the direction of lists on line?

Thanks for the replies .

Yes, it will be interesting to see the differences. The reason I'm making the lists is in order to create a small program for the iPhone and iPod Touch to help beginner birders learn bird songs, and because many (if not most) of the species will be the same across north-west Europe it makes sense to regionalise it for those countries. From the data I have so far it looks as though the top 10 - 15 species are the more or less the same though I am rather jealous of the apparent quantity of Great Tits elsewhere. I'll post my lists here when I've got all the data.

Hmm, that's true, I had forgotten that. Perhaps I won't be making a French version after all . Unless we can be very clever and have it automatically adjust according to latitude.... .

Not really. I am a member of the LPO (equiv of RSPB) and I know they have a scheme where you can turn your garden into a nature reserve, so they may be able to help you:
