Jays
Jays, these shy birds and beautiful birds have always been a welcome sight in the garden, however -
A few weeks back a sparrow fledgling flew into our window, I saw it slide down the glass and went to check on it –as I went into the garden I saw a Jay making a bee line for the chick but it fled when it saw me. I kept watch incase the jay or a cat got to the chick. I was pleased to say the chick was OK but dazed and after 5 minutes flew off unharmed.
Last weekend a great tit chick wasn’t so lucky, as it flew into the window. A Jay got to it immediately before I had chance to see if it was alive or not and carried it off to its own chicks.
Yesterday a Jay actually seemed to chase a sparrow into the window, the sparrow flew off straight way without falling to the ground. It got me thinking, I wonder if the Jay had done this on the previous two occasions and deliberately causes mayhem among feeding birds or chooses a young vulnerable bird to target?

Jays are intelligent scoundrels and, I'd say, quite capable of such a tactic.
