Is the myna the same bird which is sometimes kept as a cage bird in Europe? Very noisy?

Everytime I put fat balls out the garden is plagued with starlings and everytime I say I wont put anymore out I see them sitting in the tree so I put some up because I feel guilty. We also have sparrows, robins, bluetits, wagtails and bully blackbirds. I just think I spoil them too much. X X X X

Our bully in the garden is a robin, he attacks a pair of dunnocks for no reason. He lies in wait under the rhododendron and as soon as the dunnocks arrive he flies at them and attacks them, they donīt really seem too bothered and just puts up with it. The silly thing is the same happened last Dec and Janī then after that they just act as if nothing happens and gets on with life .

Well in my local area, bearing in mind there are about 10 trees, I would say the most popular birds that I regularly see are pigeons, seagulls, starlings and magpies, with a few house sparrows thrown in for good measures.
I would love to look out of my window and see a good variety of birds but alas with no garden and limited space I have only ever seen one pigeon land and amazingly only just this week a magpie has decided to sit on my wall and call out to his friends, so that has been a nice surprise.

Eric

Do you have any photo's of the Black Woodpeckers Eric? Apparantly they are in Holland, I am not sure though of they are in this area. I have never seen any or to be honest know what they look like .
You have an impressive selection of common birds, I just love cross bills - it's amazing how that awkward looking beak is so adept at getting the seeds from pine cones.

**I have never seen any or to be honest know what they look like .**

Never got near enough, yet, but I see the 'damage' they do to rotten trees, tearing off great bits. They start their display flight in Feb - and a sort of very melodious song. About crow size, flight less undulating than Green. Its double call note is very loud too.

I had a crossbill come to the feeder last year and I was afraid it would tangle its beak in the plastic netting.
