Best Time to Visit Australia

A friend of mine was saying that the best time to visit Australis, actually Melbourne, is around March or September, because of the changing seasons and good weather. Is that the same for the rest of Australia as well? Is there a good time to visit one part of Australia and travel across or around the country to be in another part a couple of months later to catch good weather their too. Also, I was wondering if there's a good time to be anywhere to see some real spectacles of nature that only happen one or twice a year, plants blossoming, birds in their millions, even swarms of locusts

I've heard that Autumn and spring are also the best for the east coast at least. I'd also like to know if there any good times to watch big migrations of animals or birds as I want to go to Australia in the next 3/4 years and would like to see as much as possible

I'm not sure whether it's an annual thing, and I'm sorry but I can't remember what time of year it is (so I'm not much help at all really ) But sometimes after heavy rainfall some large areas in the centre of the country flood and draw in loads of water birds and other wildlife. I'll try and find out some more and give you some information on it.

Just reviving this thread since we now have knowledgeable Strines aboard ... I suspect that the answers will involve "Which part of Australia"!

Exactly which parts of Aus you want to visit will dictate the best times/seasons based on Australian seasons!!!!

Generally east and west coasts south of the Brisbane/Perth longitudes are best in autumn as weather is still warm and pleasant with nice mornings and balmy evenings. Spring is OK, but mornings can be still cool.

Melbourne hm, I don't support Mexicans (that's what we call 'em) gets wet, they are known for cold weather. The coastline to the west of the CBD - Great Ocean Road is magical and I am still to visit, though it is about 1,000km from where I live. GUess not a priority.

Tasmania is best in summer. But they say that four seasons can be had in one day so not all is certain. Also this is high season so it is dearer.

Tropical east coast is best in winter as that's when it doesn't get too sticky and hot. Still warmer than the hottest European summers - well sort of.

If you are more specific about times we can help from downunder.

Being an eager traveler and after visiting various places in the world one thing I have noticed, nowadays its hardly prudent to get acquainted about the weather info of a place. Whatever the cause maybe i.e. the global warming or the green house effect the weather patterns have drastically changed and one can hardly interpret or speculate about what lies in store for them. It can happen that the weather behaves completely contrasting to the info we have gathered. What do the others have to say on this. I am thinking of booking holiday villas spain but am also circumspect to the weather conditions there.

The weather forecasts in my locality have only once given a true impression of what happened the next day; so, like you, I'm very dubious about any weather report. I do look in local papers or on television day by day while I'm away from home but treat these with a degree of caution.

It also depends a lot on where you are - stable weather areas (the Mediterranean, sub-tropics) are more predictable day by day than oceanic ones, for instance.

So, get the general idea, check the forecasts and cross your fingers!
