Backpack the Outback of Australia

As part of my planned trip around Australia I want to backpack around all the best bits Lots of wildlife and great scenery, great sunrises and sunsets, lots of diversity, trying to see things I've never seen before. So where should I go and what should I see. I'm open to all suggestions and will have a go at most trips, adventure sports, sleeping rough is all OK if that's what it takes. Hopefully you can fill me with lots of ideas to help plan the trip.

Thanks

Going off the topic but are you an Aussie? We don't seem to get many on this forum - it would be great if we did. Particularly nice to hear what people are seeing in an Australian summer when we're frosted over!
If you're touring, I hope you'll give us up-dates on your travels ... whenever they are ...
