Jungle Village is an eco-friendly and ethnic resort in Thekkady

The Periyar Wildlife sanctuary is located in the Periyar forests, Thekkady in the Idukki district of Kerala. The district itself is famous for its forest cover and power generation. More than 50% of the land is covered by forests. This forms an ideal habitat for the wild animals. Hence there are a number of wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. The Periyar Wildlife sanctuary is one such. It was declared as a Tiger Reserve in 1978 to protect the national animal.

The main attraction of the sanctuary is the Periyar Lake that is located centrally in the sanctuary. The tourism and the forest departments have made arrangements for boating. A boat ride is one of the best ways of seeing the wildlife. One can also go for nature treks, wildlife safaris and walks through the spice gardens. The sanctuary is home to more than 800 elephants and 40 tigers. There are other terrestrial, aquatic and arboreal animals, birds and butterflies that live here. The main attraction of the sanctuary is the Periyar Lake where there are facilities for boating. A boat ride is one of the best ways of watching the wildlife. Tourists and wildlife enthusiasts come here from all over India and the world to view the wildlife. There are many hotels and resorts where tourists can stay and enjoy the beauty of Thekkady. Jungle village Thekkady is one such eco-friendly resort that is located very close to the Periyar Tiger Reserve and overlooks wilderness. The resort is fully protected and safe for viewing wildlife. The guests can indulge in a boat ride or go for trekking, wildlife safari or even a walk through the sprawling spice plantations nearby. The resort has 40 rooms of different types. Some of them are single and twin deluxe cottages with all the modern facilities. There are standard rooms that are as good as the cottages with wooden furniture. The erumadams or the tree houses are very popular. This type of accommodation is used by the tribals while going for hunting. The erumadams provide the best view of the wildlife. Alternatively, there is Mannan Koora or tribal homes. These are traditional homes of the tribals that are made of leaves, bamboo shoot and mud flooring. There are facilities for swimming pool and Ayurvedic massages. A stay in Jungle Village can be rejuvenating and relaxing amidst sylvan surroundings.

There have been suggestions lately that tiger reserves are not as good as they should be (no tigers in some, sadly) and that tourism affects their behaviour, rendering them unnatural.
This refers to Madhya Pradesh and one hopes things might be better in other states:

I hope things are not so bad ....
