Amphibian disease

I watched part 2 of David Attenborough's "Life in cold blood" and saw the sad report about the Panamanian Golden Frogs. They have contracted a fungal disease which is attacking their skin and sufficating them. Scientists have removed the remaining frogs from the wild to try to protect them from the disease and from "Collectors" who will pay large amounts of money for these frogs. These beautiful looking frogs have the endearing abilitiy of "waving" to other frogs to warn them off of attract them - different arm movements for different meanings.

Now it seem the frog's, toads and newts in Britain are suffering the same sort of danger from the "chytrid disease"

BBC NEWS | UK | England | Cumbria | Toad-killing bug found in ponds

It seems that amphibian populations in Spain and Australia are also suffering.

Yes, it's a global thing and there seems no way of stopping its spread. It's almost inconcievable that hundreds of species of amphibians will just disappear, but true ......
