Back in about 1979 I decided I was going to be a wildlife photographer. I knew very little about wildlife, not a lot about photography, but I had managed to take some pretty good pictures of horses, cattle, dogs, and cats. So i could photograph animals, but didn't want anything to do with people (eg owners). So, where was I going to do this wildlife photography? Well, you find wildlife on reserves don't you? And what exactly was I going to photograph? Well, there were field guides so that you could identify things.

But, eventually, I became a wildlife photographer, though just not full time. The rest of the time I do other wildlife things.
