I think you're probably right, correct substrate - wood. I took a look at an image of Lecanora pulicaris on UK Lichens looks very similar although there's seemed to have red apothecia - I think this is the correct word. I presume they must simply darken on ageing.
Dr Alan Silverside on WAB used to be a great help but he's not been around of late. By the look of it his website is in the process of being moved to a new host site.
