Never got near enough, yet, but I see the 'damage' they do to rotten trees, tearing off great bits. They start their display flight in Feb - and a sort of very melodious song. About crow size, flight less undulating than Green. Its double call note is very loud too.

I had a crossbill come to the feeder last year and I was afraid it would tangle its beak in the plastic netting.
