On the health issue - yes your GP would be the best bet: they should have up-to-date listings of what immunisation is needed where ... and they'll do the immunisation for a small fee ...

and remember to keep informed about what's happening while you're away ... in case there's an outbreak of something nasty where you're heading....
You don't want to pay too much for your insurance but it's worth reading the small print of what you're covered for: Endsleigh is good and it is aimed at students.
